In-Class visit from a Cartoonist/Illustrator (NYC vendor)
Each student will receive a blank comic book which they will start, with guidance, during the visit.
A comic book focuses on storytelling using writing and illustrations.
In the limited amount of time we have, we will briefly explore the main points of a comic book:

Each student will plan out a comic book -- from the general idea of the story, to developing characters, to planning out a title. Newsprint will be provided for students to jot down ideas and sketch characters.

An important part of a comic book is writing. Students will use their general story idea to begin writing their comic book, such as character dialogue, and perhaps captions and subtitles.

A comic book also includes the drawing portion. A student does not *need* to be a good artist -- creative thought and creative writing can be the main focus, while drawing is secondary.

Time permitting, comic book techniques will also be discussed, such as using speech balloons.
